Detecting flaws and non-destructive evaluation (TEAM Problem 15)
This example demonstrates how Simcenter MAGNET can be used for non-destructive testing/evaluation and sensor problems. A circular coil moves along an aluminium plate that contains a slot. The goal is to detect the slot by calculating the resistance and inductance of the driving coil at various positions.

The following is based on the Testing Electromagnetic Analysis Methods (TEAM) Problem #15: Rectangular Slot in a Thick Plate: a Problem In Nondestructive Evaluation. The benchmark can be found on the International Compumag Society's website (TEAM Problems).

Design Optimisation of an NDT Sensor Probe
One of the most critical design decisions in any Non-Destructive Testing/Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDT/NDE) problem is the design of the probe and its suitability for detecting particular types of defects. Starting from a model based on the WFNDEC Eddy Current Benchmark Problem 2, Simcenter MAGNET Design Optimisation was used to determine the optimal coil geometry and frequency at which the inspection should be performed.

Position and speed of metal components measured with variable reluctance sensor
Variable reluctance sensors are used to measure position and speed of moving metal components. This sensor consists of a permanent magnet, a ferromagnetic pole piece, a pickup coil, and a rotating toothed wheel.

Eddy current NDT and deep flaws (TEAM Problem 27)
A coil is stationary over a sheet of aluminium that contains a screw hole. Inside of the screw hole, a flaw is to be detected by two Hall effect sensors. The sensors are used to measure the horizontal differential flux density.

The following is based on the Testing Electromagnetic Analysis Methods (TEAM) Problem #27: Eddy current NDT and deep flaws. The benchmark can be found on the International Compumag Society's website (TEAM Problems).

Detecting a crack - a problem in N.D.T. (TEAM Problem 8)
In this example, Simcenter MAGNET simulates an eddy current NDT (non-destructive testing) problem: a stainless steel block containing a crack with a probe (consisting of one inducing solenoid and two receptive solenoids) moving across its surface.

Using the mesh layers feature on nondestructive testing problems
Simcenter MAGNET has been used to generate reliable non-destructive evaluation (NDE/NDT) results for years. Our Mesh Layers feature makes these tasks easier to set up and faster to solve.
